TEAYS VALLEY - Monteia's Academy of Performing Arts enjoyed a surprise visit from Gabriel Redding, drummer for the Redding Brothers, a nationally touring rock trio who will be performing with members of the Monteia's Dance Team at the Keith Albee Theater in Huntington Dec. 7.

Redding came by the Teays Valley studio to meet members of the dance team and watch a demonstration. Brothers Micah, guitar and lead singer, and Josiah, bass, will be joining Gabriel in December for what the band promises to be a unique and theatrical rock performance.

"The Redding Brothers have been writing some songs for us to perform live with them on stage," said Monteia Childers, owner. "Gabriel is here to meet the dance company, get a feel for what they are, how they work."

The Redding Brothers have West Virginia roots, as members of the band lived in the St. Albans area before moving to other region of the country and eventually back to West Virginia, where they began performing at local venues. The band now is based in Nashville, where they are undertaking a year-long project of writing and recording one song per week and posting them free for download on the band's Web site, www.reddingbrothers.com.

The band first came into contact with Monteia's Academy of Performing Arts through a radio show host who is a friend of Childers'. The brothers write a variety of music and were asked by the host to write a song about Childers' daughter, entitled "Dragonfly", which is among the songs available on the band's site.

Often compared to bands like Barenaked Ladies, Collective Soul and Matchbox 20, the Redding Brothers have been working on a number of ideas to produce dramatic stage shows, which will play an important role in the band's performance at the Keith Albee.

"We're doing a lot of different things with our show," Gabriel Redding said. "We're looking at having a drumline do a number with us, as well. We are going to use the dance team in the background to emphasize different parts of the songs."

The band has toured throughout the nation, playing a number of venues and college campuses. They have performed alongside such noted acts as the Gin Blossoms, Sister Hazel and Joan Jett and the Blackhearts.

Redding said the Keith Albee is an ideal venue.

"It is an awesome place in and of itself, and it has trap doors. We are going to use those."
