Forrest 'Gene" Edwards, 79 of Culloden, W.Va
Forrest 'Gene" Edwards, 79 of Culloden, W.Va., passed away Sunday, October 19, 2008, at Hospice House of Huntington. He was born August 11, 1929, son of the late Jay P. and Gladys Dudding Edwards. He is preceded in death by his sisters, Dorothea Williams and Ruth Edwards Thompson, brothers Franklin and Samuel Thompson and Douglas Edwards.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Joyce Garrett Edwards; daughter and son-in-law, Natalie and Rex Dillinger of Milton, W.Va.; daughter and son-in-law, Melissa and Travis Goodwin of Greenville, S.C.; and one son and daughter-in-law, Dwight and Tammy Edwards of Culloden. Gene is also survived by three wonderful grandsons, Ben and Jacob Dillinger of Milton, and Johnathan "J.D." Edwards of Culloden. Also surviving is his sister, Yvonne and the late Lou Hayes of Culloden; and his brother and sister-in-law, James and Nadine Edwards of Scott Depot, W.Va.
Gene served in the U.S. Navy as an engineman/fireman on the USS Kent from 1948-1950. He was retired from Union Carbide / Rhone-Poulenc of Institute, W.Va. He was a member of the Culloden Volunteer Fire Department for many years and also a member of the First Baptist Church of Hurricane.
Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, October 22, 2008, at Valley View Memorial Park Chapel of the Guardian Angel Mausoleum, Hurricane, Jim McGehee officiating, with military graveside services conducted by American Legion Post 139, Milton. Wallace Funeral Home of Milton was in charge of arrangements. Donations may be made to the Hospice House of Huntington.
