REXFORD LEE NULL

Rexford Lee Null of Hurricane left this world to be with his Lord and Savior on May 3, 2010, with his loving and devoted family by his side, after a relatively short battle with lung cancer.

He was born June 9, 1940, and was the only son of the late Hazel and Lee Null.

Rex graduated from WVU in 1962 with a degree in chemical engineering and later received his MBA from West Virginia COGS. He retired from his sole employer, Monsanto Corporation with nearly 30 years of service in 1991 at the age of 51. He was blessed to enjoy 18 years of retirement with his family. He and his entire family attended Bible Center Church in Charleston, where he enjoyed being fed the Word and growing his faith in Christ, and often left services singing hymns.

Rex is survived by his high school sweetheart and lovely bride of 50 years, Judy. They were best friends and inseparable soul mates and proud parents of two children: daughter, Lesa (Barry) Bostic of Hurricane; and son, Jeff (Poozie) of Charleston. Also surviving are three grandchildren, Coby Null, Callen Bostic, and Tyson Null.

Rex was the epitome of a family man as his life centered around the activities, needs, and his love for those closest to him. He was the rock and leader of the family and modeled integrity, honesty, work ethic, and agape (totally unconditional) love on a daily basis. He prioritized support and provision for family and was always in attendance for games and activities that his children were involved with, including attendance at nearly every 2009-10 Nitro High School basketball game throughout his illness, because of his devotion and pride in his son, Jeff, who coached the Wildcats. He continued to demonstrate that same love and support for his grandchildren with his presence at their activities, recitals and games as well. His grandchildren will always remember him as a papa who got down to wrestle, play board games and ball with them. He was the ultimate role model of a loving husband, father and grandfather, and let his actions speak louder than any words. He displayed exemplary character and an old-school approach to life by literally living in a way that continuously impacted his family as well as all those who were privileged to know him.

Rex was a jack of all trades as he acted as the family mechanic, construction worker, accountant, tax preparer, financial advisor, mover and, above all, wise council. A great day for Rex began with breakfast with the love of his life and then onto an afternoon of yard work, fixing, repairing or providing a service for someone in need.

He routinely and so unselfishly poured his most precious commodity into others...his time. He created memories that will sustain his survivors forever and even in death it was his life that provided such a blessing to those who knew him. Rex achieved things most men only dream about and he lived an abundant life by earning the respect of his family and friends.

Funeral services for Rex were held Friday, May 7, at Chapman Funeral Home, Hurricane, with Pastor David Jones officiating. Burial followed in Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens, Cross Lanes.
