Obituaries: June 15, 2010
ARNOLD D. BARKER
Mr. Arnold D. Barker, 75, of St. Albans was called to meet his Lord and Savior on the 7th day of June 2010.
Arnold was born on November 20, 1934, in Curry and is now with all who have passed before him. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bertie and Lula Barker; sister, Juanita Garrett; brother, Ralph Barker; daughter, Deanna Barker; and grandson, Matthew Potter.
He was a man of many interests. He was a 1954 graduate of Chapmanville High School. He proudly served in the U.S. Army and, before leaving for the U.S. Army, he married his beautiful wife, Verdena Hainer. He worked for Town Talk Bakery and Royal Crown Bottling Company, where he retired as a salesman. After retiring, he enjoyed his automobiles, coin collecting, gardening and listening to the Gaither gospel music.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Verdena Hainer Barker; a daughter, Susan and husband, David Pinson, of Hurricane; daughter, Melissa Quintrell of Florida; grandchildren, Justin Potter, James Quintrell, Joshua Quintrell, Ashley Quintrell; and one great-grandson, Jakob Matthew Potter.
He is loved and will be greatly missed by all his family and friends.
A celebration of Arnold's life was held Friday, June 11 at Casdorph & Curry Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Cunningham Memorial Park in the Garden of Gethsemane.
The family would like to thank the staff and caregivers of Thomas Hospital and Hubbard Hospice House for their wonderful kindness and support during this time.

MINNIE MAE BUCK
Minnie Mae Buck, 79, beloved wife of Rev. Charles Herbert Buck, went home to be with our Lord on Friday, June 4, 2010, surrounded by her loving family.
She spent her last days at her home in Grimms Landing. She was a devoted wife of 61 years who loved to quilt, cook for her family, sing in church and work in her garden.
She was a member of Oma Chapel Community Church in Grimms Landing.
She taught her children and grandchildren how to love and care for one another and to always put God first.
Born May 20, 1931, in Louisa, Ky., she was the daughter of the late John and Mary Skaggs Sparks. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Plessie, Allen and Lafayette Sparks; and two sisters, Anna Lee Hayes and Dixie Rigsby.
She is survived by her loving husband, the Rev. Charles Herbert Buck; sons, Herbert Leo (Mary) Buck of Point Pleasant, Frank Edward (Sandy) Buck of Columbus, Ohio, James Denver (Kay) Buck of Grimms Landing, and Steve Randal (Nancy) Buck of Gallipolis, Ohio; a daughter, Carolyn Kay Buck-Farmer of Fredericksburg, Va.; brothers, Charlie (Shirley) Sparks, Daryll (Linda) Sparks, Connie (Sylvia) Sparks, and Johnny Sparks; sisters, Allie Mae Scarberry and Nancy (Steve) Blackburn; sister-in-law, Chloe Sparks. She was blessed with 11 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 8, 2010, at Oma Chapel Community Church in Grimms Landing, with Pastor Carl Bailes and Pastor Randy Parsons officiating. Burial followed in the Tucker Cemetery in Grimms Landing.

YANCEY EDWARD BURNS II
Yancey Edward Burns II of Culloden was born Sept. 22, 1947, and passed away June 6, 2010, at the age of 62 years, 8 months and 15 days.
He was the son of Ella Hazel Salmons Burns of Culloden and the late Yancey Edward Burns I.
Yancey was a graduate of St. Albans High School, attended the University of Charleston and graduated from Marshall University with a BA in 1970 and an MA in 1976. He also served as an officer in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and was a retired teacher and musician.
In addition to his mother, Yancey is survived by his only child and his wife, Mr. and Mrs. Yancey William Burns, Esq., of Washington, D.C.; and his favorite aunts, Helen Hauldren of Hamlin and Brenda Richardson of Culloden.
Funeral services were held Thursday, June 10, at Koontz Funeral Home, Hamlin, with Mark Terry officiating. Interment followed in Burns Peaceful Valley Cemetery, Coon Creek, Culloden, with military graveside rites by American Legion Post 111, Hamlin.
BARBARA SUE
SPENCER CLAY
Barbara Sue Spencer Clay, 54, of Winfield passed away on June 3, 2010, at her residence surround by her loving family.
Barbara was born on May 24, 1956, and was a daughter of Isabell Myers Spencer and the late John Spencer in Charleston. In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her husband, Normal C. Clay; and her brother, Jackie L. Spencer.
Barbara worked for Captain D's for over 29 years, serving as an area supervisor and general manager, as well as many other positions. She had attended both Teays Valley Missionary Baptist Church and, more recently, Nitro Church of Christ.
The loved ones Barbara leaves behind to cherish her memory are her loving companion and caregiver, Victor Hoalcraft of Winfield; her mother; Isabell Spencer of Charleston; her sisters, Patricia A. Pauley of Charleston, Penny Armstead and her husband, Douglas, of Nitro and Nancy Facemyre and her husband, James, of Scott Depot; her brothers, John Spencer and his wife, Mary, of Hurricane and Buddy Rodger Spencer and his wife, Belda, of Sissonville; 14 nieces and nephews and 16 great-nieces and great-nephews.
Funeral services for Barbara were held Monday, June 7, at Chapman Funeral Home, Winfield, with Dr. John Smith and Minister Greg Culvertson officiating. Burial followed in Haven of Rest Memory Gardens, Red House.

EVELYN JUANITA
PRYOR FENN
Evelyn Juanita Pryor Fenn, 64, died of natural causes on June 3, 2010, at her home in Dunbar.
Juanita previously lived in Nitro and Cross Lanes, Honolulu, Hawaii, and Palm Springs, Calif. She was a 1963 graduate of Nitro High School. At the time of her death, she was a longtime employee of Casci in Charleston.
She was predeceased by her loving husband, Gary Fenn, who died suddenly on Dec. 25, 2009. She was also predeceased by her parents, Hershel W. and Opal Lenox Pryor; and her dog and cat, Kalani and Keoki.
She is survived by her brothers, Harold "Bud" and wife, Robin Pryor of Pratt and Hershel W. Pryor of Fort Worth, Texas. Also surviving Juanita are nieces, nephews, cousins and a stepson, Sean Fenn, who resides in Hawaii. Juanita also leaves behind loving and loyal friends and co-workers.
She will be remembered as a warm and generous person with an independent spirit. She was an animal lover and will be missed by her two cats, Fluffy and Izzy, who have found a new home.
Juanita will be sadly missed by all who knew her. She was cremated and, according to her wishes, there were no services. She and Gary chose to have their ashes combined and spread at sea, off the coast of Oahu, Hawaii.

CORDELIA RIFFEE FIGGATT
Cordelia Riffee Figgatt, 106, of the Tyler Mountain area passed away on Tuesday, June 1, 2010, at her home.
She was a retired teacher, having taught in both Putnam and Kanawha counties. Cordelia was the author of the popular book, West Virginia Farm Stories, excerpts of which appeared in several of the Metro editions of the Charleston newspapers.
At 103, she was recognized as the oldest living Marshall alumna in the 2007 Homecoming parade. She was also an alumna of Morris Harvey College. Cordelia was recognized, at age 104, by Betty Ireland, former Secretary of State, as having voted for 50 years in succession.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl H. Figgatt; parents, Francis and Annie Riffee; sisters, Erna Thornton and Agnes Riffee; and brothers, Herman and Dennis Riffee.
She is survived by her son, Wailand Carl (Karen) Figgatt; her daughter, Hilda (Jay) Giffin; and one brother, Alva (Beulah) Riffee, all of Charleston. She is also survived by grandchildren, Kristi Giffin (Todd) Eilerman of Findlay, Ohio, Craig Giffin of Charleston, Christopher (Aimee) Figgatt of Teays Valley, Kevin (Molly) Figgatt of Fraziers Bottom and Kimberly Figgatt (George) Henson of Buffalo; great-grandchildren, Matthew Adkins, Jada Henson, Kaleb Henson, Maiya Henson, Kaitlynn Eilerman, Kassie Eilerman and Tanner Figgatt; and many nieces and nephews.
Cordelia attended several churches, the most recent being Calvary Baptist, Brown Methodist and McKinnon Presbyterian.
The family wishes to express appreciation to special caregiver, Doris Wolfe, and to HospiceCare for their kind attention for Cordelia's care.
Funeral services were held Saturday, June 5 at Keller Funeral Home. Burial followed in Grandview Memorial Park, Dunbar.

HARRIET "SIS" HARRISON
Harriet "Sis" Harrison of Washington Avenue, Nitro, checked out of Hubbard Hospice House on Thursday afternoon, June 3, 2010, and was welcomed into the arms of her Lord and Savior.
Sis was preceded in death by her parents, George and Harriett Whittington Barker.
Left to cherish her memories is her husband of 52 years, Pastor Robert A. Harrison; and sons, R. Timothy and wife, Lisa, and Daniel A. and wife, Amanda, and their son, Johnathan. She also leaves one brother, Robert Barker; one sister, Bonnie Sue Willard; several nieces and nephews; and a host of friends and loved ones.
A home-going service was held Monday, June 7, at Bartlett-Chapman Funeral Home, St. Albans with Pastor Wayne Harrison and the Rev. Ray Humphrey officiating. Entombment followed in Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens, Cross Lanes.

GEORGE FARLEY HAYES
George Farley Hayes, 82, of St. Albans passed away Sunday, June 6, 2010, at home after a long illness.
Born June 10, 1927, in Nitro, he was a son of the late Ruth Ellen Sears Hayes and George Franklin Hayes.
He graduated from Nitro High School in 1945 and served in the United States Naval Air Corps during WWII. In 1952 he earned a BS in business administration from Morris Harvey College and an MBA from West Virginia University in 1973. He retired from Union Carbide Corporation in 1992 with 45 years of service.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife and buddy of 62 years, LaDeema Lou Hayes, who passed away on April 11, 2010; and his brothers, Richard Hayes and Charles Hayes.
He is survived by his daughter, Debra Hayes Smith and her husband, Donald H. Smith, of Henderson, Kentucky; and his son, Monty Bradford Hayes and his wife, Rebecca Hise Hayes, of Kokomo, Indiana. Grandchildren include Dr. Kevin and Brooke Smith of Lexington, Kentucky, Elise M. Smith of Astoria, New York, Donald Ross Smith of Urbana, Illinois, and Christian Rochford Hayes and Matthew Montgomery Hayes of Kokomo, Indiana.
Funeral services were held Friday, June 11, at Bartlett-Chapman Funeral Home, St. Albans, with the Rev. Mark Stauffer officiating. Interment followed in Cunningham Memorial Park, St. Albans.

Mr. Gary Lee Higginbotham, 54, of St. Albans passed away on June 6, 2010, at CAMC Memorial Hospital.
Gary was retired from the maintenance department of Thomas Memorial Hospital.
Gary was preceded in death by his mother, Ruby Steele Higginbotham; and grandson, Delbert Ray Cobb.
He is survived by his wife, Rosanna Holdren Higginbotham; father, Nobel "Linzy" Higginbotham; children, Travis and wife, Heather Higginbotham, Leann and husband, Mike Ellison, Gary Lee Higginbotham II, Arnold Jones III and wife, Rachel, Russell Jones, Justin and wife, Tonya Cobb, and Thomas Cobb; five sisters, Phyllis Short, Sharon Spurlock, Susie Adkins, Connie Martin and Pula Tallman; two brothers, Steven Ray and Ronald Wayne Higginbotham; 11 grandchildren; and a host of family and friends.

VIRGINIA "RUTH" JONES
Virginia "Ruth" Jones, 88, of Nitro passed away Wednesday June 2, 2010, at her residence.
She was born July 31, 1921, in St. Albans and was the daughter of the late Frank and Susie Taylor. She was preceded in death by her husband, Damon Clarence Jones; son, Robert Damon Jones; and brothers, James and Joseph Taylor.
She was retired from Thomas Memorial Hospital.
She was the oldest active member of Mount Tabor Church of God. Mrs. Jones was a former counselor of the West Virginia and St. Albans Chapter 16 of the Daughters of America. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star St. Albans Chapter 79 and the St. Albans VFW Women's Auxiliary.
Survivors include daughter, Elizabeth Sue Boso of Nitro; and sons, Jerry Watson Jones and his wife, Janet M., of Haymarket, Va., Thomas Alan Jones and his wife, Eva, of Elkwood, Va., and Stephen Craig Jones of Tallahassee, Fla. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
A celebration of Ruth's life was held Saturday, June 5, at Mount Tabor Church of God, St. Albans, with the Rev. Jim McCallister of Poca officiating. Burial followed in Mount Tabor Cemetery, Dry Ridge.

MARY KATHERINE JORDAN
Mary Katherine Jordan, a longtime resident of St. Albans, passed away during the early hours of Memorial Day at the home she shared with her daughter in Cordova, Tenn. Mrs. Jordan had been suffering from congestive heart disease for the past several years.
Mary K., as she was known by her friends, worked 30 years for McClung & Morgan in St. Albans, was a leader in the St. Albans Woman's Club and Homemaker's Club and was a lifelong member of the First Baptist Church of St. Albans. She loved her family and friends and kept in touch with them after moving to Cordova in 1997.
Mary K. was the daughter of the late Charles F. and Lula Curnes, sister of the late Reba Branham, and wife of the late Gordon Thomas Jordan.
She is survived by three of her four children, Julia Elcan of Cordova, Tenn., Reba Lippincott of Princeton, N.J., and Mary Jo Santrock of Plano, Texas; her son-in-law, Dr. John Santrock and her daughter-in-law, Ann Jordan, of Statesville, N.C. In addition, she leaves eight grandchildren, Carol Elcan of Huntington, Jeffrey Lippincott of Princeton, N.J., Clark Lippincott of Charlotte, N.C., Sylvia Robertson of South Charleston, Tami Brook of Atlanta, Ga., Dr. Todd Jordan of Wilkesboro, N.C., Tracy Santrock of Cary, N.C., and Jennifer Santrock of San Antonio, Texas; and 12 great-grandchildren, Jordan Bowles, Joel Alm, Elaine Alm, Connor Lippincott, Cole Lippincott, Parker Jordan, Hunter Jordan, Alex Bellucci, Luke Bellucci, John Brook, Katie Robertson, and Cole Robertson.
Funeral services were held Sunday, June 6, at the First Baptist Church of St. Albans, followed by interment in Teays Hill Cemetery.

REV. JAMES B. LEGG
Rev. James B. Legg, 94, of Bancroft, W.Va., went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday June 8, 2010.
James was a lifelong resident of Bancroft.
He was a retired Postmaster of Bancroft Post Office, with over 13 years of service.
He was a former employee of Monsanto Corporation.
He was ordained as a Baptist minister in April, 1949, and was Pastor at churches in Putnam, Cabell, Wayne and Kanawha counties.
He was a member of Riverside Baptist Church in Red House, W.Va.
James also served in the European theater during World War II, receiving the Purple Heart.
He was also a bass singer with many quartets in the Kanawha Valley. His service to the Lord was very important to him.
James was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Sibyl; sisters Annetta Legg and Louise Goff, and Tessie M. Farley; brother Andrew E. Legg; and great-grandson Derik Legg.
James is survived by two daughters, Genette "Kay" and husband "Chick" Noffsinger of Poca, W.Va., and Sharon E. and husband James "Pungun" Garrison of Bancroft; five sons, William L. "Butch" and wife Sue Legg of Poca, Richard W. and wife Martha Legg of Dallas Texas, Rev. James M. and wife Pam Legg of Cross Lanes, W.Va., Gary B. and wife Pixie of Winfield, W.Va., and Barry B. and wife Rhonda of Bancroft; sister Joan Cook of Orlando, Fla., and brother Tennyson E. Legg of Dallas Texas; 17 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, two great- great-grandchildren and a host of family and friends.

MICKEY WHITE LINKFIELD
Mickey White Linkfield, 85, of Hurricane passed away at Hubbard Hospice House on June 1, 2010, after a short illness.
Mickey was a daughter of the late Arnie Bays and Eugene Holston, born August 10, 1924, in St. Albans.
She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Mickey Louise White; and her brother, George Holston.
Mickey spent her life as a devoted and compassionate wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend to anyone who she could help, as well as a lifelong member of the Church of Christ, where she was very active in the Pine Grove Church of Christ, Scott Depot.
Mickey leaves behind her husband, Lee Harold Linkfield of Hurricane; their children, Mary Parker and her husband, Dennis, of Charleston, Emmet White and his wife, Melinda, of St. Albans, Edward Linkfield and his wife, Rosemary, of South Point, Ohio, Barbra Moore of Summerfield, N.C., and Kimberly Linkfield; her sister, Virginia Moore of Huffman, Texas; her brother, Lowell "Jack" Holston of St. Albans; her sister-in-law, Helen Holston of Modoc, S.C.; her brother in-law, Tom White and his wife, Bessie, of North Augusta S.C.; grandchildren, Crissie, Travis, Shanna, Susan, James, Jonny, Missy, Mark, Mary June, Lisa and Leanne; and 23 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services for Mickey were held Saturday, June 5, at Pine Grove Church of Christ, Scott Depot, with Ministers George Erwin and Tim Jorgensen officiating. Burial followed in Sunset Memorial Park, South Charleston.

Leva Jean Miller, 75, of Hurricane passed away June 5, 2010, at Thomas Memorial Hospital after a brief illness.
She was a lifelong member of Laywell Church of Christ and had been employed by Putnam County Bank and Bank of Nitro.
She is survived by her husband, Harley; daughter Lynn Hegeman of Rutherfordton, N.C.; sons, Michael Miller of Christiansburg, Va., Anthony Miller of Durham, N.C., and Brian Miller of Hurricane; two brothers, Carl and Denzil Thomasson; five grandchildren and one great-granddaughter; and a host of family and friends.
Services were held Friday, June 11, at Laywell Church of Christ with Wade Miller officiating. Burial followed in Sycamore Cemetery.

DIRK E. OLSSON
Dirk E. Olsson, 50, of Hurricane passed away Tuesday, June 1, 2010, in CAMC General Hospital after a long illness.
Dirk was a native of Houston, Texas, was formerly of Louisville, Ky. and had lived in Hurricane for the last 14 years.
He was a former contractor and a former manager for Gino's in Teays Valley.
He attended East Nitro United Baptist Church.
He is survived by his loving wife of 22 years, Ranina Cook Olsson; sons, Kirk Olsson, Karl Olsson, Gordon McGinnis and Sam McGinnis; and grandsons, Mason, Logan and Chance Olsson. He is also survived by his parents, Fred and Peggy Olsson; and brothers, Ronnie, Eric and Karl Olsson.
Honoring Dirk's wishes, his body was cremated.
Tyler Mountain Funeral Home assisted the Olsson family.

JAMES C. "JIM" PAXTON
James C. "Jim" Paxton, 62, of Bancroft went home to be with the Lord on June 8, 2010.
Jim was a lifelong resident of Bancroft and a former employee of Avtex Fibers and Occidental Chemicals.
He was a former salesman for Reed's, Lilly's, Freeman's and Roger's Jewelers and a former employee of Paxton Carpets.
Jim was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War, a former member of the Nitro Church of God and a member of Bancroft Church of God Mission, where he sang in the choir.
Jim loved to play the piano and had been the piano player for the Proclaimers Quartet.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 37 years, Carol Barnett Paxton; infant daughters, Melissa Ellen and Holly Ann; his parents, the Rev. Cladis and June Paxton; and his brother-in-law, Richard Lorrison.
Jim is survived by his son, Chris Paxton and wife, Kim, of Poca; daughter, Amy May and husband, Johnny, of Cross Lanes; sisters, Janet Saunders and husband, Kenny, of Poca and Shirley Lorrison of Muncie, Ind.; brother, Paul Paxton of Bancroft; and his grandchildren, Jacob and Kailey Paxton.
A celebration of Jim's life was held Thursday, June 10, at Bancroft Church of God Mission with Pastor Earl Cochran, Frank Allen Jr. and the Right Rev. Emanuel A. Heyliger officiating. Burial followed in Schowen Cemetery, Bancroft, with military graveside rites.

GREGORY POLEN
Gregory Polen, 50, of Scott Depot passed away on Friday, June 4, 2010, at Thomas Memorial Hospital.
Gregory was born June 9, 1959, in Charleston, a son of Betty Sanson Polen of St. Albans and the late Ves Polen.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a brother, Michael Polen.
Gregory was a self employed contractor and owner of Polen Home Builders, a member of Putnam Lodge No. 139 A.F. and A.M., United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of American Local No. 1207 and was a certified master plumber.
He enjoyed restoring Schwinn bicycles, old equipment and vehicles. Considered a big-hearted man, Gregory was very devoted to his wife, son, stepchildren, and especially his mother, and loved spending time with family and friends.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Sharon McClanahan Polen; son, Kilian Polen, at home; and stepdaughters, Andrea Sears of St. Albans and Christina Sanson of Charleston. Also surviving are brother, Vesselin Polen and wife Barbara of St. Albans; a sister, Deborah and husband Joe White of Charleston; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, June 8, 2010, at Upper Chapel of Cunningham Memorial Park by Putnam Lodge No. 139. Burial followed in Cunningham Memorial Park.

WILLARD PATRICK
"PEDRO" RAYNES
Willard Patrick "Pedro" Raynes, 89, of Poca went to be with the Lord on June 3, 2010, following complications from an automobile accident.
He was the third of nine sons born to Leach L. Raynes and Margaret Hackett Raynes. He was a 1939 graduate of Nitro High School and a retired electrician from FMC American Viscose Division.
"Pedro" was a World War II combat veteran serving with the U.S. Army's 1st Armored Division in North Africa and Italy.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Nancy Dolin Raynes; a daughter, Toni Raynes and husband Tom Davisson of Anderson, S.C.; sons, Robin Raynes of Milton, and Thomas and wife Beverly Raynes of Ripley. Also surviving are five grandchildren, Matthew Raynes of Ripley, Amanda Raynes Bowling of Hurricane, AFC Casey Raynes stationed at Nellis AFB, Nev., Carmen Raynes of Huntington, and Andrew Davisson of Anderson, S.C.; and three great-grandchildren, David Cole Bowling of Hurricane, Lauren Raynes of Ripley, and Leah Bowling of Hurricane; and three surviving brothers, James Raynes of Nitro, Clyde (Tally) Raynes of Eleanor, and Donald Raynes of Buffalo.
"Pedro" was preceded in death by brothers, William "Bill" Raynes, John "Dizzy" Raynes, Arthur "Shooney" Raynes, Robert "Bob" Raynes, and Carl Mac Raynes.
A tribute to the life of Willard Patrick "Pedro" Raynes was held Monday June 7, 2010, at Gatens-Harding funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Mike Derry and Pastor Jim Butcher officiating. Entombment followed at Haven of Rest Memory Gardens, Red House.
The family asks that donations are made in Willard Raynes name to Hubbard Hospice House, 1001 Kennawa Drive, Charleston, WV 25311.

CLARA MAY LUCAS SLACK
Clara May Lucas Slack, 89, of Scott Depot died June 4, 2010, at St. Francis Hospital after an extended illness.
She was born February 19, 1921, to the late Albert Frye Lucas and Mary Elizabeth Crede. Her husband, Ronald Slack; daughter, Linda Slack; sister, Mary Elizabeth; and brother, John Albert, also preceded her in death.
She was retired from West Virginia Employment Security, was a member of Teays Valley Presbyterian Church, 1938 Valedictorian graduate of Elkview High School and was a member of the Eastern Star.
She is survived by her sister, Vada Ann Jarrett of North Carolina; Janet Carson of Gauley Bridge, Joan Patterson of Pennsylvania, Jill Burdette of Kansas, Kathy Christian of Teays Valley, Traci Lucas of Georgia, John Lucas Jr. of Charleston, Marsha Ann of Charleston, Brooks Humphreys, and Brian of North Carolina, John R. Crede of South Charleston; and special friends, Elizabeth Thompson and Robert Trail.

LARRY EUGENE SUMMERS
Larry Eugene Summers, 67, of Hurricane passed away June 1, 2010, in Cabell Huntington Hospital after a courageous battle with leukemia.
Born Sept. 5, 1942, Larry was the son of Marguerite Fry Summers and the late Russell Summers.
He retired with honors from the Air Force in 1981, after 21½ years of service. He later worked for the Department of Highways and West Virginia State College.
Larry loved all kinds of music and played in many bands during his lifetime. He loved to dance as well, and his favorite was doing the waltz with his wife, Mary. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his loving wife of 15 years, Mary E. Summers; and daughters, Becky Huskey of Oregon, Patricia Spicer of Minnesota and Dawn Compton of Hurricane. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Samantha, Jennifer, Christopher, Madison, Kennedy and Trevor; and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Friday, June 4, at Hafer Funeral Home, Elkview. Burial followed in the Summers family cemetery, Frame Road, Elkview.
