RONALD DANIEL ASBURY

Mr. Ronald Daniel Asbury, 51, of Nitro passed peacefully away Saturday, June 12, 2010

Ron was retired from the Department of Human Resources in the donated food warehouse.

Ron was preceded in death by his father, Ronald C. Asbury of Nitro; paternal grandparents, Dan and Sarah Helen Asbury of Eleanor; and maternal grandparents, Elmer H. and Hazel M. Null of Nitro.

Ron is survived by his mother, Lorene Null Asbury of Nitro; son, Daniel Asbury; daughter, Joanna Asbury, both of Lookout; two sisters, Cynthia Asbury and Teresa Siders, both of Nitro; brother, Michael Asbury of Spring Hill, Tenn.; and a multitude of nieces and nephews, who loved him dearly.

A tribute to the life of Ronald D. Asbury was held Wednesday, June 16, 2010, at Gatens-Harding Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Ray Humphrey officiating. Burial followed in Beech Grove Cemetery, Eleanor.

BARBARA BAILEY

Barbara Bailey, 79, of Indian Trail, N.C., and formerly of St. Albans, W.Va., died Saturday, June 12, 2010, at Presbyterian Hospital Matthews, N.C., after an extended illness.

She was a member of Mount Harmony Baptist Church, Matthews, N.C. While a resident of St. Albans, she attended Nitro Church of God, was an active member of the St. Albans Woman's Club, and was retired from Kanawha County schools, where she worked as an aide for 12 years.

Barbara is survived by her husband of 63 years, Marion "Red" Bailey; three children, Fran Bradley of Indian Trail, N.C., Michael Bailey of Annapolis, Md., and Terri Lemon of Matthews, N.C.; five grandchildren and six great- grandchildren; and her beloved dog, Sugar.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Dewey and Clara Ferrari; and sisters, Jean Whitmore and Phyllis Raynes.

A private memorial was held on Monday evening, June 14, with the Rev. Buddy Pigg officiating.

"BILL" BARTON

Howard William "Bill" Barton, 84, of St. Albans, passed away Thursday, June 10, 2010, at CAMC Teays Valley Hospital.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Dortha Benham; and grandson, Brandon Michael Barton-Shipley.

He was a retired foreman from Union Carbide with 33 years of service, and a U.S. Army Air Force veteran. He attended the Maranatha Fellowship Church in St. Albans under Pastor James Wright.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Joan Barton; daughters, Brenda Barton of St. Albans, Vicky Fields and her husband Roger of Tornado, and Joanie Schirtzinger and her husband Greg of Teays Valley; sons, Craig Barton and his wife Tina of Travelers Rest, S.C., and Brian Barton and his wife Michelle of St. Albans; grandchildren, Tawnya and Craig Mosteller, Joshua and Tara Fields, Isaiah Fields, Caleb Fields, Sharon and Scott Key, Heather and Drew Stowe, Jonathan and Jennifer Barton, Hannah Barton, Benjamin Barton, Andie, Dustin and Nicholas Schirtzinger, Beth and Daniel Pence, David and April Westfall, and Damian Arlyn; 14 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

A celebration of Bill's life was held Monday, June 14, 2010, at Maranatha Fellowship with Pastor Dr. James R. Wright officiating. Entombment followed in Cunningham Memorial Park, St. Albans.

GARRY ALLEN BOZIC

Garry Allen Bozic, 57 of Nitro passed away unexpectedly after an apparent heart attack Friday, June 11, 2010, at CAMC Teays Valley Hospital.

Garry was born in Clarksburg on June 28, 1952, and spent most of his younger years in Davis, Tucker County. He was the son of Caroline Bava Williams of Eleanor and the late Albert Joseph Bozic.

Mr. Bozic was the owner of Quality Homes and Improvement, Nitro. He was a 1970 graduate of Mountaineer High School, Davis. He served four years in the Navy as an engineer. Garry was a generous, caring and loving husband, son, father and grandfather. His life mission was to be of service to others, always giving of himself. He will be missed greatly by all who knew him. We appreciated his kind generous heart and all of his hard work.

In addition to his mother, Garry is survived by his wife, Starr Ann Ditter Bozic of Nitro; one daughter and son-in-law, Dawn (Mitchell) Lemle of Poca; stepfather, Arnold S. Williams Jr. of Eleanor; his brothers and their families, Dennis Bozic of Crimora, Va., Jerry Alawat of Mineral Wells, and Larry Saccamando of Massachusetts; his sisters and their families, Mary Ann Shaw of Bristol, England, and Debbie Laquerre of Springfield, Mass.; and his grandson whom he adored, Jacob Lemle of Poca.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, June 16, at Cornerstone Church of God, Nitro, with Pastor Paul Farley officiating. Following the services, he was taken for cremation.

IVY B. "PAUL" DERRICK

Ivy B. "Paul" Derrick, 79, of Nitro passed away June 10, 2010, at home.

He was retired from Union Carbide Corp and graduated from Sissonville High School. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather.

He is survived by his wife, Martha King Derrick of Nitro; children, Pamela Derrick of Nitro, Nancy (David) Dudley of Cross Lanes and Larry (Debra Derrick of Derricks Creek; granddaughter, Sara Derrick; grandson, Jason (Jennifer) Derrick; sisters, Maxine (Arlie) Rhodes of St. Albans and Julia Derrick of Nitro; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James Franklin Derrick and Nellie Asbury; brothers, James, Lester, Don Derrick and Johnny; and sister, Vernetta Miller.

KENNETH BRIAN HASS SR.

Kenneth Brian Hass Sr., 62, of Barboursville passed away Friday, June 10, 2010, at his residence.

Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, June 15, 2010, at the Church of Jesus Christ Latter Day Saints, Huntington, with Bishop Tony Edmonds officiating. Burial followed in Ridgelawn Memorial Park, Huntington.

He was born December 26, 1947, in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, the son of the late William and Enid Lybbert Hass. He was also preceded in death by one sister, Carolyn Mayo.

He is survived by his loving wife, Ninette Sharp Hass of Barboursville; two sons and daughters-in-law, Brian and Amy Hass of Hurricane, and Stephen and Lindsey Hass of Barboursville; three sisters and brother-in-law, Arlene Hatch of Ivins, Utah, Joan McGrath of Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada, and Dixie Gibson of Boise, Idaho; one brother and sister-in-law, Don and Linda Depew of Atlanta, Ga.; six grandchildren, Andi and Audrey Hass, Michael Sword and Tashia Cline, and Hayden and William Hass.

He was employed as director of operations for Hurricane Chevrolet, was a member of the Sleepy Hollow Golf Club, and a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, where he had served as High Councilman. He was also a member of the board of director of Golden Girls, and a graduate of Morehead State University.

Hannah B. Barnett Higginbotham, 97, of Red House left her earthly home and entered her heavenly home on Saturday, June 12, 2010.

She was born May 23, 1913, at Liberty in Putnam County. She was the daughter of the late Oscar and Leola Moore Barnett. She was the youngest of ten children and the last surviving sibling. She was a homemaker, treasured mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great grandmother. She was a Christian.

In addition to her parents and siblings, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 64 years, George Luther Higginbotham; two sons, Clarence O. "Lefty" Higginbotham and James L. "Preacher" Higginbotham; and great-grandson, Matthew W. Higginbotham.

She is survived by her five sons, Robert L. "Deak" and wife Karen of Eleanor, Kenneth R. and wife Janice of Hurricane, Marvin E. and wife Betty of Red House, Carl W. and wife Sandy of Iron Station, N.C., and Clayton E. "Pete" of Red House. She is also survived by her two daughters, Carrolene Rollins and husband Vernon "Dencil" of Scott Depot and Naomi Lanier and husband Charles "Chuck" of Point Pleasant; 18 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, June 16, 2010, at Raynes Funeral Home, Buffalo, with the Rev. Nyle Fisher Sr. officiating. Burial followed at Buffalo Memorial Park, Buffalo.

RETIRED SENIOR MASTER SGT. BOBBY "SARGE"

DILLARD LESTER

Retired Senior Master Sgt. Bobby "Sarge" Dillard Lester, 74, of St. Albans passed away June 11, 2010, at CAMC Memorial Hospital after a long illness.

He was born June 17, 1935, in Eccles to Faye Robertson and Ray Lester, who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by sister, Judy Keene.

He attended Trap Hill High School and joined the Air Force when he turned 17. He was a proud veteran of the Vietnam War and recipient of The Bronze Star. He retired in 1978 after a 26-year career that took him and his family all over the world. He was a lifetime member of the VFW.

Despite dropping out of school in the 8th grade, he went on to graduate with honors from West Virginia State College with a Bachelor's degree.

He enjoyed listening to, and had an encyclopedic knowledge of, country music. He enjoyed fishing and spending time with family and friends.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Nora Godbey Lester; his daughters, Terry Auger of Coventry, R.I., and Carol of St. Albans; sons, Robert of West Palm Beach, Fla., and David (Kathy) of St. Albans. He is also survived by brothers, Basil "Sleepy", Dennis, and Jimmy; and sister, Peggy Barker. He leaves behind grandchildren, Jessica, Derek, Nikki, Sarah, Bobby, Beck, Katie, Shannon and Cassidy; as well as eight great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 15, 2010, at Bartlett-Chapman Funeral Home, St. Albans, with Chaplain, Capt. Jack Miller officiating. Burial followed in Cunningham Memorial Park, St. Albans, with military honors.

AMY LYNN MOORE

Amy Lynn Moore, 40, of Hurricane went home to be with the Lord, Saturday, June 12, 2010, at Thomas Memorial Hospital, South Charleston.

Amy was an active member in Forrest Burdette Memorial United Methodist Church; she was active with the youth and many other church activities. She loved her church family. Amy's greatest accomplishment was being a loving and devoted wife and mother. She was very active with the special needs program at West Teays Elementary School, especially the autism program.

She was preceded in death by her grandmother, Mary Jane Smith; and father-in-law, Wayne Allen Moore.

Amy is survived by her loving husband, Dr. F. Scott Moore; children, Sarah Lynn Moore and Bradley Scott Moore, both at home; parents, Harold Edward and Hilda Iris Angel of Elkview; grandmother, Edra Burgess of Charleston; mother-in-law, Linda Moore of Belle; and brother- and sister-in-law, Travis and Jill Moore of Huntington.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, June 16, at Forrest Burdette Memorial United Methodist Church, Hurricane, with the Rev. Dr. Dan A. Hogan and the Rev. Jonathan Dierdorff officiating. Burial followed in Sunset Memorial Park, South Charleston.

Sidney C. Mullins Jr. of St. Albans entered into eternal rest on Friday, June 11, 2010 at his residence.

He was born August 10 at Welch. He was the son of the late Sidney Carson and Amy Opal Barker Mullins. He was also preceded in death by his brothers; Robert Neil and Gene Ralph Mullins.

Sidney was a graduate of St. Albans High School and served in the U.S. Army as a paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne.

He was a member of the Panther Association, PUFL member of the American Legion Post 73, Disabled American Veterans and a sometimes-retired auto mechanic.

He is survived by three sisters, Frances Faust of Charlotte, N.C., Betty Mullins of Houston, Texas, and baby sister and caregiver, Kitty Smith of South Charleston. He is also survived by niece and caregiver, Vicki R. Smith of St. Albans; and nephews, Tracy E. Faust III and Henry N. Faust, both of Charlotte, N.C.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 15, 2010, at Bartlett-Chapman Funeral Home, St. Albans. Burial followed in Cunningham Memorial Park, St. Albans.

Inez Lillian Thornton Pauley died June 12, 2010, at the home of her daughter, Mary Pauley.

She was born March 28, 1920, to Millard F. and Jewell G. Tincher Thornton.

She was a Baptist. She raised and educated three children through high school alone. She loved sewing, gardening, working in her flowers, and cooking. She loved spending time with her great-grandson, Jayden.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward D. Pauley; parents, Millard F. and Jewell G. Tincher Thornton; brothers, Harold and Ronald Thornton; and sisters, Hazel Miles and Dortha Paul.

She is survived by her son, Gary Pauley; daughters, Mary Pauley and Brenda Pauley Erwin and her husband, Dan; granddaughter, Edee Adkins; and great-grandson, Jayden Hoffman, all of Hurricane; sisters, Jane Carpenter of Culloden, Jean Caldwell of Hurricane and Louise Deel of St. Albans; and brother, James Thornton of Hurricane.

A private funeral service was held Tuesday, June 15, with the Rev. Jim McGehee officiating. Burial was held in Mount Moriah Cemetery.

"Johnny Boy" SEPESSY

John William "Johnny Boy" Sepessy, 71, of Hurricane, W.Va., formerly of Barboursville, W.Va., passed away June 8, 2010, at the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House.

Johnny is now in the presence of God and has a new and perfect body.

Graveside services were conducted Friday, June 11, 2010, at Oaklawn Memorial Park, Huntington.

He was born April 1, 1939 in Cabell County, a son of the late John Sepessy and Blanche Jobe Demidenko.

He was also preceded in death by his step-father, Fred Demidenko.

Johnny is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Joseph and Becky Sepessy of Barboursville; two nephews, Joey Sepessy and Bryan Sepessy and his wife Sherri; one great-nephew and five great-nieces.

The family would like to thank Teays Valley Center and Hospice of Huntington for their kindness and care of "Johnny Boy" during the last 10 years.

Harold L. Shilling, 63, of St. Albans passed away Thursday, June 10, 2010, at Hubbard Hospice House, Charleston, after a long illness.

Harold was a lifelong resident of St. Albans and a former employee of Cunningham Memorial Park, St. Albans.

Surviving: children Jake (Lynn) Shilling of Poca, Will Shilling of Elkin, N.C., Wendy (Mark) Harris of Buffalo, Amy Stokes of St. Albans and Urata Singleton of Nitro; sister, Carolyn Saunders of Randal, Wash.; 14 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

A special thanks goes to HospiceCare, Charleston, and Central West Virginia aging. Special thanks also goes to caregivers, Laura Willard and Lori Hedrick, special friend, Mary Jones, and numerous family and friends.

Eula Marie Taylor of Scott Depot passed away Wednesday, June 9, 2010, in Hubbard Hospice House, Charleston.

Born July 31, 1926, in Nicholas County, she was a daughter of the late Zack S. and Victoria Roberts Riddle. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde I. Taylor; brothers, Aaron "Ed" Riddle, Eldridge Riddle and George Elburn Riddle; and sisters, Anna Riddle, Alice Peterson and Goldie Strickland.

A loving and devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, she loved her Savior, church and church family. She was a member of Teays Valley Missionary Baptist Church where she retired as a custodian.

She is survived by her sons, Jim (Judy) Taylor and Larry Taylor; and daughter, Sharon (Larry) Carpenter, all of Scott Depot; two grandsons, Jimmy (Kim) Taylor of Hurricane and Michael (Sheila) Carpenter of Scott Depot; three granddaughters, Kimberly (David) Scott and Cindy Smith, both of Scott Depot, and Stephanie Ciavarello of New York; seven great-grandsons, Matt Taylor of Texas, Josh Scott, Chris Smith, Ryan Smith, Jacob Scott, all of Scott Depot, Justin Taylor of Texas, and Stephen Carpenter of Scott Depot; two great-granddaughters, Madison and Cheyenne Carpenter of Scott Depot; six nieces and five nephews.

JOHN P. TONEY

John P. Toney, 90, of Nitro passed away Thursday, June 10, 2010, at Moss' Care Home after a long illness.

He was born November 2, 1919, in Burnwell. Mr. Toney served his country in the South Pacific in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a graduate of WV Tech, and retired from Kanawha Valley Bank. He was a longtime member of the Baptist Temple.

Mr. Toney is survived by his sister, Margaret Owens of Nitro; brother and sister-in-law, Roger and Penny Toney of Toledo, Ohio; and several cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 15, at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar, with Pastor Ben Bess officiating. Burial followed in Cunningham Memorial Park.

RONNIE LEE WENTZ

Ronnie Lee Wentz, 55, of St. Albans, formerly of Winfield, passed away suddenly Thursday, June 10, 2010, at his residence of an apparent heart attack.

He was a child of God and loved the Lord. Ronnie was a wonderful son and brother, but most important, he was a loving and devoted father to his daughter, Anna.

Ronnie was born June 13, 1954, in Pomeroy, Ohio, to Ronald and Viva Mae Jessie Wentz of Winfield.

He was a graduate from Winfield High School class of 1972 and a 1976 graduate from West Virginia University in accounting and finance. Ronnie was an avid Mountaineer fan.

He was formerly employed by Federal Express, Dow B. Hickam and Therapeutic Innovations.

Along with his parents, and his daughter, Anna, who is attending Marshall University, Ronnie is also survived by stepson, Steven Anderson of Parkersburg; sister, Christi Ann Wentz of Dunbar; and beloved cousin, Connie Hunt of Chesapeake.

A celebration of Ronnie's life was held Monday, June 14, 2010, at Stevens & Grass Funeral Home, Malden, with the Rev. Roy Moles and the Rev. Stanley Hunt officiating.

Burial followed in New Antioch Cemetery, Putnam County.

NANCY FAYE WILCOXEN

Nancy Faye Wilcoxen, 69, died June 9, 2010, at her home in Fraziers Bottom.

She was born May 25, 1941, and was a daughter of the late Lem and Lola Williams Akers.

She retired after many years at Putnam General Hospital. She was a lifelong resident of Fraziers Bottom and a member of Fraziers Bottom Church of God. She was very devoted to her family and friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Martha Moore and Mildred Hanley; her brothers, Bobby Akers and Dick Akers; and her grandson, Josh Wilcoxen.

She is survived by her husband, Lesley J. Wilcoxen; her daughters, Beverly Harrison (Dayton Milhoan) of Fraziers Bottom, Janet (Ronald) Tilley of Hiddenite, N.C., and Lisa (Michael) Shuler of Gordonsville, Va.; her sons, Jeffery (Gayle) Wilcoxen and Larry (Tracey) Wilcoxen; 14 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

She is also survived by her sisters, Emma (Billy Joe) Doss of Huntington and Linda (Kenny) Legg, Drema (Calvin) Armstead, Peggy (Jerry) Cowan and Delia "Dee Dee" Akers, all of Fraziers Bottom; and her brothers, Danny (Cathy) Akers and Calvin (Tonja) Akers, both of Fraziers Bottom. We also want to remember all the nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, and special friends who held a special relationship with her.

Funeral services were held Saturday, June 12, at Chapman Funeral Home, Winfield, with the Rev. Gary Hale and the Rev. Lester Errett officiating. Burial followed in Evergreen Cemetery, Fraziers Bottom.

The family suggests donations are made, in memory of Nancy, to HospiceCare, 1606 Kanawha Blvd. W., Charleston 25312, with a special thanks to Lori Carter, the nurse from HospiceCare.
